PRSS Working Group member Professor Bridgette Brawner co-authored a paper that was recently published in the American Journal of Public Health. The paper, "Partnering Medical Students with Barbers to Cut Hypertension in Black Men," examined a program that Penn medical students established in partnership with West Philadelphia barber Darryl Thomas. Members of the Student National Medical Association visit the barbershop and provide blood pressure screenings to customers.

On October 13, Professor Dorothy Roberts will be inducted into the National Academy of Medicine in a ceremony at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.
Prof. Roberts was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2017.

At the 2018 American Sociological Association Annual Meeting, Professor Dorothy Roberts organized, presided over, and served as discussant for the August 14 session "Feeling Race in Our Genes."
"Feeling Race in Our Genes" explored the connections between emerging genetic technology and emotional narratives about race and genetics. The session featured presentations by Professors Terence Keel, Alondra Nelson, and Joan M. Donovan.
