Join Perry World House for the Global Justice & Human Rights Seminar featuring Penn Integrates Knowledge Professor and 2024 MacArthur Fellow Dorothy Roberts.

Professor Roberts will present on “All of Reproductive Justice": Black feminists in the United States developed a reproductive justice framework that includes the human right not to have a child, to have a child, and to raise children in safe, supportive, and sustainable communities. The longstanding devaluation of Black women’s childbearing has supported an expanded criminalization of pregnancy that encompasses fetal protection laws, abortion restrictions, and family policing.  The Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health spotlights the entanglement of these reproductive violations which the U.S. mainstream reproductive rights movement largely ignored. An approach that encompasses all of reproductive justice in the United States and globally is more urgent than ever.

The seminar will be held both in-person at Perry World House and on Zoom on Monday, December 2 from 10:15 - 11:15am.
