Although studies of human genetic variation have long discounted the existence of biological human races, race and biology (genetics, in particular) continue to be linked in relation to humans. In various ways, concepts and constructs of race travel globally, and the associated notions of identity and difference permeate biomedical research, healthcare, and health policy. This presentation highlights similarities and differences in global perceptions and applications of race as well as the complexities of variation in global health equality and health outcomes. Suggestions for advancing discourse, research, and best practices related to these issues will also be discussed.
